Cycling. Family fun on two wheels.
Riding is a great way to spend quality time together as a family. Here are a few tips to make family rides safe and fun for everyone.

Provided as a public service by Trek Bicycles.
1. Make sure they're ready.
Once kids can hold their head up, it's okay for them to join you on a ride. Kids should ride in a trailer until they ride a bike themselves.

2. Always wear helmets.
Both kids and adults should always wear a helmet whenever you ride - even if you're not planning on going very far. Younger children may need help adjusting their helmets properly.

3. Know the rules.
Once kids learn how to balance and pedal, they need to learn the rules of riding. Teach them to ride straight and to watch for pedestrians and traffic.

4. Choose the right route.
Don't take on more than you think your kids can handle. Keep pedal trailer rides short at first - you can always go farther the next time. Bike paths and other traffic-free areas are a good place for new riders to start.

5. Plan ahead.
It's a good idea to preview the route for your ride, keeping an eye out for uneven pavement, potholes or busy intersections. You'll also want snacks for whenever you take a break.

6. Have fun.
It's time for you and your family to get out there and ride!
